Popular Electric Guitars
There are a number of electric guitars that have become icons. Anybody who plays guitar should at least be aware of these great guitars.
Fender Stratocaster
The Fender Stratocaster, often referred to as "Strat", is a model of electric guitar designed by Leo Fender in 1954, and manufactured by the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation to the present. The Stratocaster has been used by many leading guitarists including Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi hendrix and can be heard on many historic recordings.

Fender Telecaster
The Fender Telecaster was developed by Leo Fender in 1949. The Telecaster or "Tele" was the design that finally put the solid-body guitar on the map. Its simple yet effective design and revolutionary sound broke ground and set trends in electric guitar manufacturing and popular music. The Telecaster has been in continuous production in one form or another since its first incarnation, making it the world's oldest solid-body electric guitar.

Gibson ES-335
The Gibson ES-335 is the world's first commercial thinline arched-top semi-acoustic electric guitar. Released by the Gibson Guitar Corporation as part of its ES (Electric Spanish) series in 1958, it is neither hollow nor solid; instead, a solid wood block runs through the center of its body. The side "wings" are hollow, and the top has two violin-style f-holes over the hollow chambers.

Gibson Flying V
The Flying V was years ahead of its time, as Gibson dealers tended to think of it as a display prop rather than a guitar to sell. It wasn't until the late 1960s that the electric guitar started to gain popularity. As guitar heroes such as Albert King, Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack adopted it, the "V" quickly became symbolic of rock 'n' roll itself.

Gibson SG
In 1961, the Les Paul guitar was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.
